About Us

Our Mission

We’re here to provide our students with the knowledge, skills and safe training environment they need to learn to defend themselves. We are dedicated to cultivating an atmosphere of inclusivity, and we aim to actively celebrate and uplift marginalized groups and misfits of all kinds. At PMWT, you’ll learn to use your body effectively and efficiently in real-world self-defense scenarios, all through the lens of traditional Chinese martial arts.

Oh, and you’ll have fun doing it, too!

Whether you’re a martial arts nerd, interested in self-defense, or just looking for a fun way to get fit outside the gym, our program will provide all you need to attain your own personal kung fu (“achievement through hard work”).

“Train like a robot to fight like an animal.”

— Sifu Ethan Hampton , Brooklyn Wing Tsun

What exactly is Wing Tsun?

Wing Tsun is a southern Chinese, family style of martial art that is ruled by four fighting principles and three ways of force. We focus on direct angles, interception, deflection, and overwhelming aggression to “stick to” and effectively smother an opponent’s weapons while simultaneously attacking their center.

The 4 Fighting Principles:

If the way is free, go forward. If you meet an obstruction, “stick”. If you meet greater force, give way. And as your opponent retreats, follow.

The 3 Ways of Force:

Abandon your own force, unload your opponent’s force, and borrow your opponent’s force.

What does PMWT offer?

In addition to “Hong Kong-style” Wing Tsun training (through Chi Sau, forms, and sparring), our modern self-defense defense program teaches awareness, avoidance & de-escalation as a first resort, and use of force only when necessary.

OUR FOCUS:

  • Kung Fu – Achievement Through Hard Work & Practice of Traditional Chinese Martial Arts

  • Self-Defense – Knowledge & Skills to Avoid or De-Escalate a Potentially Violent Scenario, or to Adapt and Fight Back when a Scenario Becomes Violent

  • Fitness – Build Strength, Stamina, and Agility through Various Methods of Training

  • Inclusive Community – Surround yourself with kindred spirits from All Walks of Life both in class and at PMWT Community Events
